A SIMPLE CLICK AND YOU’LL SEE THE PIC IN IT’S OWN BIGGER, BRIGHTER, SHARPER WINDOW
It’s rare I post just a single shot…Seems a bit lightweight if you ask me….BUT I’ve got a project in the works that’s keeping me busy this evening…hopefully some shots will appear on here in the next few days if anything half decent comes out of it.
In the meantime, a single shot that I took through a luthiers window in the town of Baza.
In the UK you can count the number of independent guitar makers on one hand, but in Spain, especially the Southern provinces, the independent luthier is still a reality.
Next time I’m in the area I’m going back to this one to try and take some shots inside the workshop….
Isn’t it beautiful?

Not only is it beautiful but I swear I can smell how wonderful it is in there.

Aha…So I’m not the only one who would love to sniff the luthiers wood….?!.
But seriously, you are not wrong…I treated myself to a hand made cypress flamenco guitar on my last visit to Spain and I swear I stroke and smell it as often as I play it……

Wood shop, shoe shop, bake shop as well
I’ll smell it, I’ll wear it, and eat like hell

No point in appetites if they go unsatisfied….

Fab-u-lous! I love to see craftsmen and their workplaces.

Hey there…Glad you like!
This craftsman was very typically Spanish though..I first passed the shop at around 2.00pm and at 7.00pm in the evening it was still closed..Thats a doosey of a siesta.
🙂

Too right! But do you think it was ever open?
Stuart Hyde - shpics
Hmmmm….I do hope so..
I’ve got a mental picture of yours truly returning, peering through the dusty glass and seeing a diminutive, white haired old dude, (think Geppeto), shuffling out through that doorway at the back, seeing me and beckoning me inside, sitting me down with a tall glass of chilled fino while he hammers, glues, and files before presenting me with a magic six string, (the sort which sounds like it’s being played by an angel, rather than an old English ex-punk with five thumbs and cloth ears)….

Fingers crossed…:-)

I like. Hope you are able to go back and get more. Love the texture of the workbench in contrast to the guitars

Isn’t that bench amazing? I bet if you slid your fingers along it it would play a chord….

Great shot…and great new word (for me)! I found a neighbor building a banjo in his garage on one of my walks once, but this has all the Old World charm of craftsmanship and history and everything else. Fell asleep listening to a John Williams CD of Spanish guitar music just the other night….I swear, I can’t figure out how many fingers and hands it must take to play that stuff.

Thanks Scillster..
Tell me it wasn’t ‘window’ or ‘the’ that had you reaching for the dictionary……
🙂
Oh, and by the way, did you actually see this neighbour?
In my experience ”I’m popping out to the garage to build a banjo’, is a euphemism for something very unsavoury.
scillagrace
Oh, he and his wife were most definitely in the garage together, with the door open, and he was working on constructing a banjo. I saw everything.

Well here in the UK if someone says that they use tissues and baby oil not a saw and a rasp….
But at least his wife was lending a hand.
