Finally…It’s taken three days, but at last I’ve got an image I’m pretty happy with.
The whole idea was to end up with something that felt ‘sculptural’. I’ve really struggled with trying to change skin textures into something even vaguely ‘stoney’ using photoshop… everything has just seemed too artificial. On the verge of giving up, I finally tried re-shooting with a really fast film speed, hand-held with (very) subdued directional light to get as grainy a finish as I could….I then, further ‘pushed’ the noise in Photoshop and put on the sepia cast…..Sometimes the simple approach is the best..

I tried a couple of church type candles but I’m afraid it was just a little too blurry….
I’m considering trying something including a lit candle in shot though, so, if that works, you might well see it here…
