THESE GRINS ARE BIGGER AND TOOTHIER IN THEIR OWN NEW WINDOW. CLICK’EM AND  PUT A SMILE ON YER MUSH!

Towards the end of our Goan odyssey we were staying in  Mandrem, a small, sleepy, (for India), town not far from the Northern border. The town of Mapusa, some 40 mins by car or motorbike to the South East, is the only town of any real size in the area, and, after a couple of days of almost complete indolence we decided we needed a bit of hustling and bustling and headed there to check out the market.

BIG MARKET!

We were there for maybe two hours, before the hustling and bustling, pushing and shoving, cajoling, shouting, entreating crowds finally got too much, and the heaving market burped us out onto a side street ..

Two hours but nearly six hundred frames later I was knackered! Thinking of it now I’m still knackered! It was like being picked up and shook by a beastie!

It was, without any shadow of a doubt, the highpoint of my trip…..I hope you enjoy these pics, the first of a fair old few..

She’s happy! It might be a good five months before the monsoon but she’s not going to get caught out!

She’s happy coz she’s just spotted a loony with an umbrella.

He’s happy coz while he’s having his photo taken by a scruffy haired English fool with a Nikon, his sister is finessing an expensive transaction with the idiots wife.

She’s happy coz she’s fifteen and beautiful…AND she’s just sold 40 silver bangles, two pairs of silver ear-rings and a silver anklet, and all of the idiots wife’s money is in the pocket of her sari.

But hey…

I’M HAPPY…I’m the lucky bastard who’s been to Mapusa with a camera, and whose wife jingles when she walks….Yippeeee!

And I’m happy because people smiling at each other helps me believe in world peace! Maybe there are really fewer problems than we think. Nice way to start another day, anyway. Thanks for sharing!

I’m all for world peace, but I’m sad to report only moments after I took these, Mrs Shpics, who has a bit of a temper, became embroiled in a fistfight with a group of young female Swedish backpackers who had taken a bit of a fancy to me……(I dont know what it is but I’m a magnet for that sort of thing).
Anyway, after ten entertaining minutes there was only her and a single Swede still standing, albeit breathless, sweaty and with not a stitch of clothing left between them…
At that point I felt I had to intervene…..I do like watching a good fistfight but, in the spirit of détente, you’ll be pleased to hear I managed to pour oil on the situation.
